The Autogenic Training

 

History of Autogenic Training

"Autogenic Training " is a century old visualization and meditation technique from Europe. It was developed in the early 20th Century by the German psychiatrist and neurologist, Prof. Dr. Johannes Schultz. The use of the technique is very popular in Europe, where it is even covered by most insurance plans. This method is currently gaining increasing acceptance in the USA and other countries!

The training aims to induce physical and mental relaxation from within and creates deep mental awareness.

No particular physical skills or exercises are involved; however, persons desiring to learn this technique must be prepared to invest a little time. A course of 6 sessions is the best way to learn the method. Persons with serious medical conditions should seek the advice of their physician before beginning a class in Autogenic Training. Autogenic Training is not recommended for persons with severe psychological disturbances.

 

Benefits of the Training

Autogenic Training has been shown to relieve many stress-related disorders, including anxiety, phobias, grief, burnout syndrome, sleep disturbances, anger, fatigue, headache, eating disorders, psychosomatic pain, PMS and examination stress.

Its effectiveness is also shown in the relief of chronic medical conditions -- such as migraine, depression, anxiety-panic disorders, mental health disorders, ADD/HD, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes, hypertension and insomnia.

Autogenic Trainings increases self-esteem,  confidence and trust in oneself and one's abilities.  

Autogenic Training is a powerful tool to neutralize stress symptoms and has tremendous impact on our health, well-being and performance.

The mental state during a training session is best described as "being an alert but passive observer" of body sensations and awareness. A deep form of body relaxation occurs first, followed by a deep mental relaxation  where typically contemplation, visualization, problem solving and accessing deeper levels of creativity happen.

During this deeply relaxed but alert state students add their own positive affirmations and spend some time creative envisioning and exploring new behavior, feelings or situations they wish to control the next time they appear on their canvas of life.
